Top Golf I got a free bucket of balls to practice my swing :)
Redbox Got a free movie rental
Marriott surprisingly gave me a one night elite credit
CVS gave me $3 coupon to use off anything in the store
VS gave me $10 coupon to use off anything in the store
Panera Bread gave me a free pastry or sweet..yum!

and many more free deserts with a purchase of an entree from many restaurants I've signed up for.

1000+350 SWA points for new signups

Via One Mile at a Time, you can earn up to 1,000 rapid reward points by signing up as a new member and opting to receive both communications. You must keep subscribed for 3 months and remember that points don't expire if you have activity every 24 months.

To earn another 350 points, you can sign up for e-miles before Oct 31, 2012. You will get 100 bonus miles plus 250 miles for activating your account within 90 days. For e-miles, you have to earn at least 500 miles through surveys in order to transfer these miles to your Rapid Rewards account. If you already have an account, no worries, just use a different email to sign up. For links to various other participating programs click here.

As many of you know, SWA has merged with Airtran. Here is a great post from the Points Guy on how to transfer miles between the programs.

Here is also a link  which allows you to check in to your flight automatically to get a better boarding group.

For a great post about the SWA companion pass, check out this one by Extra Pack of Peanuts.

Getting to #FTULAX on a Budget

As my first time going to any kind of frequent flyer event I am obviously very giddy but also want to do it by using and earning points of course :) Buying the ticket for $99 for a two and a half day event while meeting all the travel & points/miles gurus and junkies is totally worth it and a no brainer for me!

For an AA economy flight I got mine using only 20,000 Avios from IAH to LAX saving me $330.  Doing some searching I also found other places with flights from Fri-Sun!
25k Avios + $5 RT from IAD or DCA
20k Avios + $5 RT from ORD or DFW,
  9k +$5 from STL

For a step by step way to book flights on AA using Avios check out the Points Guy's post.

The Sheraton Gateway hotel that was set up for the event is already booked for the group rate so other options include:

The Radisson near the airport within walking distance to the Sheraton is an option and you can take advantage of the BOGO promotion going on. You must register and book by Oct 31. There is also a cash and points option of 10k + $87 per night.

The Four Points by Sheraton is also within walking distance and it is going for 3k spg points per night. If you don't want to use your points, you can book the hotel with the 40% off second nights which gets you 2 nights for $159 + tax.

Top off Club Carlson Points with 50% Bonus

Now until November 10, 2012, you can purchase Gold Points and you will get a 50% bonus. You can buy in increments of 1,000 points for $7 + the 50% bonus. So you could get 15,000 points for $70 (10,000 purchase +5,000 bonus). There are some hotels that you can get a free night for 15,000 that are more than the $70 so this would be a great deal! Or if you need to top off your account this will be a good way too.

Also there is another BOGO promotion where if you stay one night at a Radisson you get a free night certificate valid until Dec 31, 2013. Check out the post by New Girl in the Air!

Up, Up, and Away with Avios

British Airways is having a promotion valid for US and Canadian residents where after registration and taking a qualifying, round-trip, transatlantic flight in any cabin and fly as an Executive Club member between now and January 31, 2013, you will earn bonus points!
  • First round trip=15,000 avios points
  • Second round trip = 35,000 avios points
  • Third round trip = 50,000 avios points
  • Forth and beyond = 50,000 avios points per round trip
The best part is that you don't have to fly British Airways, you can fly and accumulate bonus Avios on qualifying American Airlines, Iberia, and OpenSkies transatlantic flights.

  • Must be 18 yrs of age, must be an Executive Club member and must register for the promotion.
  • Existing bookings made prior to the promotional period do not qualify and this offer cannot be applied retroactively
  • Member must purchase and fly on a full-fare, transatlantic round-trip ticket  and there are booking class restrictions
  • Cannot be combined with any other offer and allow 4 to 6 weeks for bonus Avios to be credited to your Executive Club account
I don't think purchasing full fare flights is worth it just for the points but if you are taking a business trip or were planning on not using points for one reason or another then don't forget to register to take advantage of this!

US City in Review: Virginia Beach

I love going to the beach so I take the chance to use my vacation/points there when I can. I went to Virginia Beach twice this year for the Patriotic & Neptune Festival. Virginia Beach hosts several events throughout the year including fishing tournaments, concerts, and many running races. This place has a plethora of hotels to stay at but for events you need to book early since they fill up! I had stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and the Holiday Inn & Suites and they were both great properties with views of the beach. On a side note, the Holiday Inn & Suites only allows one breakfast buffet per reservation for Platinum members for the length of the stay. I had stayed for 2 days and had accidentally made one reservation for each day so ended up getting 2 breakfast buffets for me and my guest. Accidentally awesome :)

Along the beach and Atlantic Ave there are many places to each and get drinks. One place I went which I thought was delicious was Captain George's Seafood Buffet. They have excellent all you can eat crab legs and a variety of items to satisfy the masses. There is also many pizza places to choose from but the one I liked the best was Dough Boy's California Pizza.

So about the festivals, I really loved the Patriotic festival! They had the blue angels there along with many other types of planes. The coolest ones were the planes that wrote messages in the sky. They also made a heart which I took a pic of above. They also had Miranda Lambert and the Pistol Annies perform at the festival to honor the military and veterans who have served our country. I thought it was a wonderful experience.

The Neptune festival got rained on but it was still fun! Here over 100 art and food vendors come set up their tents for people to browse or buy. There were really cool ideas that I got for arts and crafts and of course I couldn't resist a turkey leg. They also hosted the North American sand sculpting championship. I was truly amazed at the detail of the sculptures, they were amazing!

So If you haven't been to VA beach, it is a fun time during the summer or during one of their festivals!

3x AA Miles with CitiCard Holiday Purchases

Look for your email invitation from Citi AAdvantage Card to register for 3x the American Airlines miles for purchase made at toy, electronic, computer, and apparel stores. You can get up to 2,500 AAdvantage bonus miles through December 31, 2012.

Plus you won't have to worry about shopping around for the best holiday deals because if you register your covered purchases at citipricerewind.com and if there is a lower price by at least $25 found within 30 days, you will receive a refund for the difference up to $250 per item.

I am looking into getting a laptop soon since mine kicked the dust earlier this year, so this promotion would be great for this!

My Churn and Moving to TX!

I haven't yet posted about my credit card churn this quarter so here is what I got

Hyatt Chase Card- 2 free nights with 2 suite ujpgrades after 1st purchase
Priority Chase Card - 80,000 points with Platinum Status after 1st purchase
Hilton Citi Reserve Card - 2 free weekend nights and Gold status with 1st purchase
SPG Amex Card- 30,000 points with $5k spend in spend in 6 months

With the 2 new Chase cards that gives me 7 in total. All of them just happen to be hotel cards because most have great rewards with just your first purchase. I do need to get more airline miles so I think my next one will be the Barclays US Airways card since I haven't yet gotten this and maybe a AA business Citicard. I have the personal one and no business ones so I think I will give this a try.

Also I've decided to move back to the great state of TX!! With the weather turning cooler in DC and all my family still back in Texas, it has given me the itch to go back home. So I'll be joining the other TX bloggers like Mommy Points :)  For anyone that has never been or lived it Texas...everything is bigger and better there :D
